Taiwan's Rock Balancing Festival Unites Global Artists in Hualien's Coastal Paradise

The Pacific Ocean International Festival of Rock Balancing and Arts has officially begun in Hualien, Taiwan. The event launched on May 1st, 2026, at the scenic Qixingtan coastal area. For two months, the site will host a mix of art, culture, and hands-on activities for visitors from around the world.

The opening ceremony featured a unique musical performance inspired by rocks. Students from Taipei National University of the Arts and local Hualien schools took part in the show, setting the tone for the festival’s creative spirit.

The festival transforms Qixingtan Scenic Area into an open-air art space until June 30th. International artists from Sweden, Spain, Iraq, Japan, and Turkey are showcasing their work alongside local creators. Exhibitions, workshops, and a rock balancing competition form the core of the programme.

Visitors can explore local markets, try their hand at rock art, or enter a photography and video contest. The event also encourages participation, inviting people to craft their own stone sculptures along the shore. This year’s festival has expanded its global reach. A new partnership with Scotland’s European Land Art Festival brings additional artistic exchanges. Organisers hope the collaboration will attract even more international guests to Hualien’s coastal beauty.

The festival runs daily until the end of June. With art installations, live performances, and interactive activities, it offers something for all ages. The event aims to celebrate creativity while highlighting Hualien’s natural landscapes and cultural connections.
