Russia's Black Sea train tickets vanish as summer demand spikes sharply
Demand for summer train travel to Russia’s Black Sea coast has surged, with most tickets already sold out. Passengers heading to Krasnodar Region destinations like Sochi and Adler face limited options, particularly for premium services. Prices have climbed sharply as availability dwindles.
Tickets for faster trains have vanished first, leaving only slower routes with sparse seats. On the busy Moscow–Sochi line, just 4–5% of seats remain for the first half of July. First-class and luxury sleepers are nearly gone, with over 70% already booked. Even third-class platzkart tickets now start at 5,500 rubles, while standard compartments (kupe) begin around 7,000 rubles.
Prices for sought-after services have soared. A seat on the premium No. 102 Moscow–Adler express can reach 17,500 rubles, while other high-demand tickets hit up to 9,000 rubles. Trains to Anapa still have slightly more availability, with 16–17% of seats left. Travel experts warn that delays in booking could leave passengers without options. They recommend securing tickets as soon as sales open—90 days before departure—to avoid missing out on popular dates.
With most summer train tickets to the Black Sea already gone, travellers now face steep prices and few choices. Those still planning trips must act quickly, as remaining seats continue to sell fast. The rush highlights the growing competition for holiday travel during peak season.
